As individual audio tape and video tape use rises, the probability of a
patron returning it damaged or broken greatly increases.
Do you think there should be a set number of circulations for materials that
we own? Once that number has been reached:
should the material still circulate with no charge to the patron if returned
damaged or broken? or should the material be withdrawn?
Has anyone dealt with this in their library??
We have a lease audiobook plan, which works out well because the patron only
has to pay $9.00 per damaged tape and we only keep these a maximum of 15
months. However, I think we need to do something
differently with the audio and video material we actually own.
Currently, we keep the non-leased audio and video tapes until they die.
Then they are sent to me and I have to determine whether or not the patron
is charged.
