The ALCTS CMDS Collection Development Librarians of Academic Libraries
Discussion Group will be having a discussion on:

"Competencies and Curriculum for Collection Development at Midwinter.

Time:   Saturday, January 25, 2-4 p.m.
Place: Franklin Room, Hawthorne Suites Hotel, 1100 Vine Street (said to
          be "adjacent to the Convention Center").

There will be three short presentations to kick off the discussion,
leaving more than an hour for group discussion. The presenters will be:

Dr. JacquelineMancall, professor of library science at Drexel, will
talk about what library schools are able to teach about collection
development;

Allen Scherlen, bibliographer at Appalachian State, will talk about
what he wishes he'd learned or known when he began as a new
selector/bibliographer;

Linda Phillips, head of Collection Development at the University of
Tennessee, Knoxville, will talk about what she as a head of collection
development would like new selectors/bibliographers to know or be aware
of.

We hope this will be a lively discussion. It should be a good preface to
the forums on Monday on the organization of collection development.

A volunteer to take notes from the presentations and discussions would
be welcome.
