Dear Colleagues:
We are in the process of evaluating current acquisitions and cataloging
procedures, and have found that the task of plating both named fund
purchases, as well as gift books, takes up an enormous amount of our
time.
We have the mixed blessing of relying on approximately sixty
endowed/named
funds with which to purchase materials, but tagging books for staff and
students to "special handle" involves extra time and paperwork.
We have yet to consult with our campus Development Office about this
proposal, but have any of you relied on doing away with the plating of
books and just recorded the donor's name or fund in a MARC tag, for
example? We are looking for creative ways to eliminate this tedious
step,
as well as make it easy for us and our donors to see where the money is
going. Thank you for any information you can provide, and please reply
to
me rather than the list.
