Subject: 2 positions at Western Ky University

1) Head, Dept. of Library Special Collections. Western Kentucky University
seeks applications for the position of Head, Department of
Library Special Collections (Kentucky Library and Museum) .  This is a tenure
track faculty position reporting to the Dean of University Libraries. Western
Kentucky University is a state-assisted comprehensive university of 17,700
students. The fasted growing university in the state, WKU offers a broad array
of master's degrees and several cooperative doctoral programs. The main campus
is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a city of 50,000 residents which is the
most ethnically diverse city in Kentucky.  Located some 20 miles north of the
Kentucky-Tennessee border, along I-65, the city is a shopping and arts center
for south central Kentucky.Nashville, Tennessee is an hour to the south.
University Libraries uses the Endeavor Voyager Library management system, and

Duties: administers a special collections department consisting of the
Kentucky Library, Archives and Manuscripts, and the Kentucky Museum.
Collections include 70,000 volumes, thousands of non-book items, a large
manuscripts collection, University Archives, a historical museum with 60,000
artifacts, and a large public education program.     Salary: $55,000 minimum.

Required: ALA accredited MLS, at least five years of administrative experience
in special collections, excellent oral and written communication skills, good
interpersonal skills, a knowledge of special libraries, archives and
manuscripts, museum collections and preservation.  Research and publication
are required for promotion and tenure

Preferred qualifications include: a graduate degree (PhD preferred) in a
relevant discipline; experience in strategic planning, fund raising and grant
writing; experience in soliciting donations of special materials; and
experience in the management of budgets and staff.

2) Coordinator, Glasgow Campus Library. Western Kentucky University seeks
applications for the position of Coordinator, Glasgow Campus Library in the
Department of Library Public Services. This is a tenure track faculty
position. Western Kentucky University is a state-assisted comprehensive
university of 17,700 students. The fastest growing university in the state,
WKU offers a broad array of master's degrees and a cooperative doctoral
program.The Glasgow Campus of WKU, with an enrollment of over 1,700 students,
relocated to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility in January 2002. Scenic
Glasgow, a city of 15,000, is located off the Cumberland Parkway by the
intersection of I-65. The Glasgow Campus is 35 miles East of Bowling Green,
the most ethnically diverse city in Kentucky, a shopping and arts center
serving an area of a quarter-of-a-million people. Located 20 minutes from
Mammoth Cave National Park, the Glasgow Campus is about an hour from Nashville

Duties: Coordinate Library Services in a small non-circulating reference
collection located on the Glasgow Campus. Supervise the library, part-time
staff, and student assistants; provide reference service and research
instruction; select library materials; and serve as liaison with the Glasgow
Campus faculty. Salary: $38,000.

Required: ALA accredited MLS, at least 2 years of library experience in public
services, familiarity with electronic reference tools, including Internet
resources, excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal
skills.

Preferred qualifications include: A subject masters degree; collection
development experience; involvement in professional activities; prior
supervisory experience.
