Lynn,
Would you please send this to the colldev list for me. Jim Neal will be
one of the presenters at an ALCTS Library Materials Price Index Committee
program at ALA. I will be moderating the program as well as participating
in a short discussion at the Big Heads meeting on Saturday Morning. The
whole Price Index premise has become much more difficult with the advent of
consortial deals and some of the extraordinary cuts that have been made in
material budgets that will, I assume, have considerable impact on pricing
for next year.
  Many thanks,
  gay

Gay, would you be willing to forward this message to the Collection
Development directors group distribution and ask that they forward any
ideas to me? Thanks!

I will be speaking at an ALA/ALCTS program this summer on the use and
relevance of price indexes and forecasting (Bowker Annual, for example) for
collection budget planning in academic libraries. Would you take a minute
or two, and respond to two questions? Thanks for your help!

  1. How have you used such price indexes?

  2. Will these indexes continue to be beneficial?
