Our faculty are presenting our library with a grant proposal to acquire
Chinese language materials by travelling to China, and to create a
faculty/staff led student project to catalog the materials. Although
their intentions are honorable and their hearts are in the right place,
I am obviously concerned about everything from the condition of the
materials that will be purchased to their proposed cataloging
suggestion.
I'm wondering whether any of my colleagues have been presented with a
similar proposal and what issues you raised to make sure that the
library's (and, by extension, the college's) interests in a quality
collection and cataloging for same are maintained.
