The Libraries of Emory University include the General Libraries and
libraries for health sciences, law, theology, and Oxford College. The Emory
Libraries are members of the Association of Research Libraries, Research
Libraries Group, and the Digital Library Federation. A new physical sciences
building will include a library emphasizing electronic resources and will
open in Fall, 2002.
Job Information:
The Physical Sciences Team Leader will develop the physical sciences library
program supporting Physics, Environmental Studies, and Mathematics &
Computer Science. This is a newly created position that will support the
library in the new Physical Sciences building. The facility provides the
opportunity for the new team leader to develop a service program that will
incorporate the latest technologies for information delivery.
The Team Leader will gather data on an ongoing basis to develop flexible and
innovative library services to serve the needs of physical sciences faculty
and students. The team leader will perform the full range of subject
specialty services in a team-based environment including reference
assistance, research consultation, library instruction and collection
management activities and will place an emphasis on marketing library
services.
Education requirements:
ALA accredited MLS. Additionally, a degree in the Physical Sciences is
strongly desired (physics or mathematics preferred).
Total number of years of experience required:
A minimum of three years experience in science reference or collection
management in a
large research library.
Required Skills and attributes include:
*Experience in meeting the research and instructional needs of
students and faculty in the sciences.
*Knowledge of issues and trends in scholarly communication in the
sciences.
*Extensive experience in physics and/or mathematics with a general
knowledge of environmental studies and computer sciences.
*Experience in developing and delivering discipline-related
instructional sessions
*Functionally proficient in integrated library systems.
*Demonstrated knowledge of effective collection management practices,
and
*A record of involvement in professional activities.
