4. Status Report: University of California Collection Management
Initiative (Brian Schottlaender) 15 minutes
The UC initiative, funded by the Mellon Foundation, is being carried out
between October 2001 and September 2002. Selected print journals for which
electronic access is available through the California Digital Library have
been temporarily removed from the shelf and relocated to remote
storage. During the study, researchers will rely primarily on the
electronic version of these journals. Usage data are being gathered, and
researcher experienced and preferences assessed. After evaluating the
results, the university will use what has been learned to develop
strategies, policies and programs for the future management of library
collections consisting of both digital and print formats.
5. CAROL: Collections and Acquisitions Research Online -- 10 minutes
CAROL is an information clearinghouse for library research. It is a
web-based database where researcher sin any area of library collections or
acquisitions can log a description of their research and locate other
researchers active in areas of interest to them. CAROL may be access at
