This is my first time writing to this discussion list. I have been asked to
compare our psychology collection with the collections of other libraries of
similar size. With the absence of CACD, I have made comparisons by subject
headings which are not as accurate as call number ranges. The totals for
each of the subjects are at best "estimates", since I can only build lists
of call numbers on my own catalog. Does anyone know of other programs that
might be available to run comparisons? Does anyone have a suggestion of how
a comparison of this nature could be run accurately without the use of CACD?

Dorothy,
I've recently been looking at OCLC's Automated Collection
Assessment Service (ACAS) for some projects of our own. One version that
they offer is that of comparing a collection with another target
collection, although I don't know if it could be limited to a certain
call number range. You may wish to look into this.

Good luck!

OCLC's Automated Collection Analysis Service (ACAS) can compare your
library's collection to your selected peer libraries and can scope the
analysis by call number ranges and date ranges. This product is extremely
customizable, using either your local data or your WorldCat records. For
additional information, please see www.oclc.org/western/wlnprods/acas
