Are the rest of the libraries who had customized gateway subsidized patron
ordering with UnCover currently without any service since the transition to
ingenta? How are other libraries handling this? From the last message from
ingenta I had today, it seems possible that the final version of the
database/service might not be ready by the beginning of the fall semester
("We will be sending your beta with a list of the titles that have not
matched the ingenta/UnCover database (for blocking purposes) within the
next several weeks" is what we've been told). Although usage has lessened
since we have put up our electronic journals database, the UnCover service
was still receiving steady use and patrons are certainly missing it.
I don't know that there's an answer to what has happened, but I'm
interested whether others are considering dropping this part of ingenta
based on this troublesome beginning, or if they have more inventive solutions.

The Florida State University System Libraries are using the public version
of ingenta for patron searching and ingenta has set up separate accounts for
our ILL use while we wait for the new customized gateway.

(2) From: "Andrea Keyhani" <akeyhani_at_ingenta.com>
I would like to address the comments from Bonnie Jean Cox, regarding
ingenta/UnCover. First, let me say that we have recently integrated UnCover
into ingenta, and this integration has not been without significant
problems. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, and have made
every attempt to accommodate our library gateways, by providing them with
free document delivery through ingenta. We are working hard to make sure
that all gateways go live within the next few weeks. We realize that the
librarians need a significant period of time to familiarize themselves with
the new service in preparation for the upcoming academic year, and are
quite cognizant of the fact that many institutions begin the fall term in
August.
In an attempt to deal with low match rates, we communicated with Bonnie
Jean, regarding working together to improve the match between the library's
holdings and ingenta/UnCover holdings. We expect to produce match reports
for gateways by next week, and will work closely with them to improve title
matching.
The new service will offer much-improved functionality, including
recognition of electronic subscriptions. We currently offer over 5,000
electronic journals through our service. If electronic documents are not
subscribed to, they may be accessed on a pay-per-view basis. In addition,
we will use the UnCover database for fax and Ariel delivery to fill in the
gaps, where electronic documents do not exist.
We appreciate your patience while we work out any existing problems, and
are sure that you will enjoy the new fully integrated system.
Sincerely,
Andrea Keyhani
