Come to the RLG Forum during ALA to learn more about the content of this
unique online resource, get a sneak preview of how it works, and give us
your ideas -- San Francisco Marriott Hotel, Salon 4, Sunday, June 17, 9:30
- 11 am.
RLG Cultural Materials, designed for use in academic and research
communities, will be ready for subscription at the end of 2001. A coherent
collection of images and descriptions that puts cultural objects from RLG
members on the user's desktop, this new service consolidates recent
progress in digital collection development and metadata practices.
Over a late breakfast, you'll gain a better understanding of RLG Cultural
Materials and its potential for your users. Steve Hensen, Director,
Planning and Project Development, Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special
Collections Library, Duke University, will comment on how the database
will aid researchers in a host of disciplines. You'll see the actual
system in its current stage and be able to discuss with members of the
design team what makes RLG Cultural Materials different from other
image-based services.
