From: "Kris Gerhard" <KGERHARD_at_gwgate.lib.iastate.edu>

Iowa State has been informed that, starting July 1, YBP will no longer
honor our usual discount on approval books from the following publishers:

Ashgate
CRC
Edward Elgar
Greenwood
Haworth
Edwin Mellen
Neal-Schuman
Nova Science
Charles Thomas

We are examining the output of these publishers to see if we can drop any
of them from our approval plan, or switch from receiving approval books for
one or more of them to receiving slips only.

Have other libraries received this notification? Have you made any
particular plans to address this loss of purcahsing power, by adjusting
your approval plan profile, writing the publishers, writing to Yankee, etc.?

Hi Kris,

We use Academic for approval. Out of curiosity, I checked their list of
publishers covered on approval against your list. It turns out that 7 of
your publishers are covered at the regular discount. Two are not covered at
all: Neal-Schumann and Nova Science. FWIW,

Hunter

Yes -- we recieved the same letter. However, as a community college with a
rather small book budget, I don't think this will affect us much. We
certainly don't have any publisher-based approval plans where we are
getting all the output from certain publishers. We have a slip only plan
and do select a few titles from CRC, Haworth, Neal-Schuman, and Charles
Thomas, but it's not a significant amount. Isn't it interesting that two of
those publishers publish in library science? One would think that they
would understand the budget needs of libraries.
