            JOB DESCRIPTION: HEAD OF TECHNICAL SERVICES
 
Responsibilities:  Texas A&M University-Kingsville seeks an   
energetic, innovative librarian for the position of Head of Technical   
Services. The full- time, tenure-track position in the Library is   
responsible for planning and managing all aspects of technical   
services including  acquisitions, cataloging, management of license  
 agreements, serials management and processing library materials   
in print, electronic, and audiovisual formats.      

The Head of Technical Services serves as the key liaison and     
communicator between Technical Services and other Library     
departments; serves as contact person between Library and     
vendors of services or materials pertaining to Technical Services;     
advises the Library Director on Technical Services issues;     
represents the Library at meetings, etc. at the request of the     
Library Director; other duties as required.

Required Qualifications: Education: An MLS from an ALA-  
accredited university.    
Experience: Three or more years  experience in technical services   
in an academic library; experience in successful supervision or   
management of technical services personnel; experience in serials   
mangement/control; experience with university and library budgeting 
  and accounting practices; experience working with an integrated   
library automated system.
 
Abilities/Knowledge: Experience in problem-solving and 
independent   decision-making; demonstrated ability to 
delegate  responsibilities   and authority as appropriate; 
ability to  communicate with people at   all; ability to 
maintain an  atmosphere conducive to job productivity;   
ability to establish efficient, realistic plans that clearly 
convey the   mission and philosophy of the University and 
the Library; ability to   respect others and possess the 
willingness to value the viewpoints   of others; willingness to 
engage in professional, scholarly, and   service activities 
required for promotion and tenure at Texas A&M   University-
Kingsville.
 
Preferred Qualifications: Education:  Second Masters Degree.    
Experience: experience in ordering, receiving, paying, and   
accounting functions on an integrated library computer system;   
preference for experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc. software.   
Abilities/Knowledge:  Familiarity with activities in acquisitions and   
bindery; with collection development principles; with cataloging   
standards and operations; possessing basic knowledge for the   
management of licensing agreements for electronic databases.      

James C. Jernigan Library: Current holdings include over 500,000   
volumes, 600,000 microforms, 2,200 current periodical   
subscriptions, and over 80 database subscriptions. The library web

Salary:  $36,000 - $39,000, a competitive benefits package, 
and no state income tax.    

University & Community: Texas A&M University-Kingsville, a part
