Non-Tenured Faculty Position Vacancy
TITLE: Librarian, Engineering and Physical Sciences
CATEGORY: Non-Tenured Faculty, Full Time (12-Month Appointment)

The University of Maryland (UM) Libraries is evolving to a team-based
organizational structure. Currently, three subject teams, Science &
Technology, Social Sciences/Allied Professions, and Arts & Humanities,
provide reference, instruction, and collection management services to
the faculty and students in their disciplines.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Engineering and Physical Sciences Librarian is a
member of the Science & Technology Services Team and resides in the
Engineering and Physical Sciences Library (EPSL), a branch of UM
Libraries. Primary responsibilities emphasize outreach to students and
faculty in the A. James Clark School of Engineering and the College of
Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences through in-depth reference,
instruction and collection management services. Serves as the liaison
to the Departments of Computer Science and Aerospace Engineering.
Collaborates with faculty to support information literacy efforts and
faculty research. Builds and manages electronic and print undergraduate
and research collections in cooperation with other subject librarians
and faculty. Provides reference and instruction at the Engineering &
Physical Sciences Library and also McKeldin Library as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and
Information Sciences, and academic background or work experience in
engineering or physical sciences. Preferred: Two years reference
experience in an academic or research library; academic background or
work experience in computer science or aerospace engineering;
supervisory experience; knowledge of scientific literature and
publishing trends; experience in creating and/or maintaining Web
sources; strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills;
public service focus; ability to work effectively in a collegial,
multidisciplinary team environment; commitment to ongoing professional
growth and development; and commitment to principles of diversity.

The University of Maryland (UM) Libraries is evolving to a team-based
organizational structure. Currently, three subject teams, Science &

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Agricultural Sciences Librarian is a member of the
Science & Technology Services Team and resides in McKeldin Library.
Primary responsibilities emphasize outreach to students and faculty in
the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources ((AGNR) through
in-depth reference, instruction and collection management services.
Serves as the liaison to several departments and programs in the AGNR
including Animal & Avian Sciences, Biological Resources Engineering,
Natural Resources Sciences, Institute for Applied Agriculture and the
Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Collaborates
with AGNR faculty to support information literacy efforts and faculty
research. Builds and manages electronic and print undergraduate and
research collections for AGNR, in cooperation with other subject
librarians and faculty.
Provides leadership for the UM Libraries' participation with AgNIC
(www.agnic.org) as the lead institution for agricultural biotechnology
and partner institution for dairy science. Works closely with three
National Agricultural Library (NAL) contract librarians who spend 20% of
their time on projects of mutual interest to NAL and UM Libraries.
Provides reference and instruction at McKeldin Library (including
evenings and weekends) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences
Library.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and
Information Sciences, and academic background or work experience in the
sciences. Preferred: Knowledge of scientific literature and publishing
trends; experience in creating and/or maintaining Web sources; strong

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Life Sciences Librarian is a member of the Science
& Technology Services Team and resides in White Memorial (Chemistry)
Library, a branch of UM Libraries. The Life Sciences Librarian has
responsibilities that emphasize outreach to students and faculty in the
College of Life Sciences through in-depth reference, instruction and
collection management services. Serves as the liaison to the Department
of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics (CBMG). Collaborates with CBMG
faculty to support information literacy efforts and faculty research.
Builds and manages electronic and print undergraduate and research
collections for CBMG, in cooperation with other subject librarians,
especially the Chemistry and Biochemistry Librarian and the Life
Sciences Librarian for Biology and Entomology, and with faculty input.
The Life Sciences Librarian shares reference duties with the Chemistry
and Biochemistry Librarian who is also the branch library head. The
Librarian is responsible for library operations in the absence of the
branch library head.
