We have short runs of bookmarks printed up, which include any
username/password combinations our students might need.
Then we hand them out in all the B.I. classes, and at Circ. and Reference
desks, and hope for the best.

From: Martha Starck <starckm_at_milwaukee.tec.wi.us>
Generally, we have been waiting for databases to come out with access based
on IP filtering and have been avoiding the password based systems. We are
still waiting for the online version of LOIS to give us IP address access,
but last I heard, they won't do it. We still have LOIS on CD on our CD-ROM
network, but that network has been problematic and is going to be phased
out in the near future.

We try to avoid subscribing to anything that requires a password.

At UIC we do not subscribe to databases that do not permit IP recognition.
User name and password access is too complicated to handle.

At the Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries we have a page on our
library intranet that provides a table with login names, passwords, and
other instructions for access to such online resources. Access to our
library intranet is password protected so that only library staff can
access this information. See below for the wording we use for this page.
At this time the number of resources listed on the page is small enough to
manage easily.
PASSWORDED ELECTRONIC JOURNALS/RESOURCES
The following electronic versions of journals have been passworded by
the publisher. The Library may use the passwords to access the journal on
behalf of a patron or to log patrons in.
The login name and the password must not be given to the patron and
cannot be posted openly for patron use.
