Collection Development Coordinator, Business Information Services Center

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for policy development, planning, and selection of current and 
retrospective library resources and collections in all formats, including 
the development of written policies. Manages the negotiation, renewal and 
oversight of contracts and licensing agreements for multimedia and digital 
resources. Responsible for a $1.5 million information resources budget. 
Leads and coordinates the work of subject and format specialists from 
various library departments who share responsibility for the continuing 
development of Baker's collections in all formats; serves as a subject 
specialist for one or more faculty units at HBS; participates in providing 
reference service in BISC; works closely with Research Services staff to 
stay abreast of faculty research interests and curriculum development 
directions; works with counterparts in the Harvard College Library and 
other Harvard University libraries as appropriate to develop agreements and 
procedures for shared license agreements and other cooperative collection 
development initiatives; works with Executive Director in fostering 
relationships with vendors.
Serves as a key liaison with faculty and program administrators on 
collection development issues; coordinates with Library Technical Services, 
the Public Services Manager, and other staff as appropriate on the 
bibliographic and physical management of the collections; represents Baker 
Library within Harvard University and regionally, nationally, and 
internationally in collection development matters. Performs other related 
duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Experience in academic and research library 
collection development required; experience in business or social sciences 
information services helpful. Demonstrated understanding of the evolving 
role of the academic research library and issues related to scholarly 
communication, access and ownership, and emerging technologies; superior 
interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to provide leadership, set 
priorities, and resolve competing demands in an atmosphere of rapid change; 
excellent planning, analytical, organizational, and communication skills; 
demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with and coordinate the efforts 
of colleagues from across departments to achieve stated goals; strong 
customer service orientation; demonstrated creativity and initiative; high 
degree of computer literacy.

Preferred: Previous experience selecting business information resources; 
experience negotiating license agreements; reading knowledge of one or more 
foreign languages.

Salary: $47,200 minimum
