AN OPEN INVITATION
The University of Minnesota Libraries and MINITEX Library Information
Network invite you to attend our 8th Annual Collection Development
Symposium, "Building Library Collections for the Next Generation." The
symposium will focus on what the next generation will expect of libraries
and information resources and how librarians can develop collections to
meet these future needs and expectations.
Futurist Dr. Wendy Schultz will consider societal trends and how people
will likely want information delivered twenty years from now, how they will
want to use it, and how information access may interact with the evolving
educational system. Dr. Clifford Lynch, Director of the Coalition for
Networked Information, will explore how technology, the scholarly
community, and trends in higher education will call for new types of
information resources (content, access, delivery). Afternoon speakers will
introduce specific initiatives that are building on historical collections
to meet the needs of future generations. Chuck Thomas will discuss image
and other digitization projects in the University of Minnesota Libraries
collections. Dr. Annette Melville will describe the work of the National
Film Preservation Foundation. Father Eric Hollas, Ph.D., will speak about
the preservation and access work of the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library.
The symposium will take place on May 21, 2001 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at
the Earle Brown Continuing Education Center on the St. Paul Campus of the
University of Minnesota. Cost (includes lunch): $55. Register at
