On Monday, January 15, 2001, during the Midwinter Meeting of the American
Library Association, the RUSA/CODES Reference publishing Advisory
Committee (RPAC) has scheduled an event of importance to reference
librarians everywhere. There will be a town-meeting type of activity in
which the audience of librarians and publishers will be asked to
participate and provide input with respect to the arrangement, content,
and format of the next issue (12th edition) of Guide to Reference Books,
scheduled for publication in 2004. This has been the standard publication
for people involved in reference service since the turn of the century,
and with the new millennium there is the need to review it for changes
that may be needed. Of real importance is the decision regarding inclusion
of electronic resources, especially the question of web sites. Presiding
over the meeting will be the newly appointed editor of the Guide, Bob
Kieft, who also serves as current chair of CODES. He may be joined by a
surprise, mystery guest.
The event will be held on Monday, January 15, 2001, from 9:30 am to noon
at the Grand Hyatt Hotel (Independence FG). Updates will be posted on the
RPAC homepage at:
