THE FLEUR COWLES FLAIR SYMPOSIUM 2000
THE INFINITE LIBRARY:
Manuscripts, Archives and Special Collections in the 21st Century
On November 3 and 4, 2000, the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center
at the University of Texas at Austin will host the fourth biennial Fleur
Cowles Flair Symposium--THE INFINITE LIBRARY: Manuscripts, Archives
and Special Collections in the 21st Century.
THE INFINITE LIBRARY brings together an international group of authors,
library directors, bookdealers, scholars, and university administrators
to explore the research library's future. The symposium will address
a wide-range of topics vital to libraries as they anticipate and respond
to trends in scholarship, technological developments, funding matters,
and the acquisition of literary archives, presenting new, controversial,
innovative and creative ideas, much as Fleur Cowles did in her landmark
publication, Flair magazine.
Among the twenty-five featured speakers are:
WILLIAM CHACE, President of Emory University
LYNNE BRINDLEY, Chief Executive of the British Library
JAMES FALLOWS, National Correspondent for The Atlantic Monthly
DIANE JOHNSON, American Novelist
ARNOLD WESKER, British Playwright
