With the beginning of the fall term, we seem to suddently be inundated with
faculty donating software for our Learning Resources Center (some items for
permanent addition to the collection, others for reserve use for their
students). This would be a good thing, except that our faculty are
purchasing single user versions of CD-ROMs with licenses that are so
restrictive that we can't use the stuff. We are having a heck of a time
convincing faculty that we cannot legally accept the donations. They seem to
think we are trying to be obstructive and difficult. I am very interested to
hear from others who have dealt with this situation and to learn what you
are doing to proactively educate faculty about software licensing
restrictions. I am especially interested to hear from those who have updated
their library donation policies to reflect information about software
requirements/software that cannot be accepted. Thanks! -- Catherine
