[This post is in response to the question below.]

There is not much space in the
small public library where I work; and I
wanted to know how long you all
retain your paper periodicals. Our
customers ask for back issues about
once every 4 months.

Our State Library has periodical access
for public libraries through a variety of
databases. If you have an idea of just which
periodicals are asked for (maybe keep track
for a couple of months or a year), then you will
know what you can eliminate. Most of our libraries
keep the most requested ones a year; beyond that,
they're in the databases. We're fortunate to have
plenty of computers from Gates, TIF, and other
sources. We serve 67 public libraries in the
middle of Texas. Most of them have limited space
and inadequate CD budgets. You have to be selective.

Good luck.
Laurie
