Virtual Collection Development

The School of Library & Information Studies at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison will again offer its
interactive continuing education course via the
Internet on Virtual Collection Development. Every day,
new resources (both free and licensed) become available
in electronic format on the Internet. How does this
impact traditional library collections? In this
on-line course, you'll learn how to select and evaluate
these resources, what policies should be in place, how
libraries are delivering electronic resources to patrons,
and how to use the Internet as a collection development
tool. The next session of the course will be offered
October 2 - November 10, 2000. The fee is US$285. For
more information about the course and its format, or
to register, please contact Jane Pearlmutter, director
of continuing education, UW-Madison School of Library
& Information Studies, 600 N. Park Street, Madison, WI
53706 (608) 262-6398 (email: JPEARL_at_slis.wisc.edu).
