 ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
 
 POSITION AVAILABLE:
 Head, Department of Special Collections
 
 SALARY RANGE:
 Associate Librarian II to Librarian III ($44,448 - $74,244)
 Appointment rank and salary based on qualifications and
 experience.
 
 OPEN:
 Immediately.
 
 RESPONSIBILITIES:
 This position reports to the Associate University Librarian
 For  Collections and is responsible for administering the
 Department of Special  Collections, which includes the
University Archives.  Duties
 Include  formulation of policies and procedures for
collecting,
 acquisition,  arrangement and description, access, and
preservation of the
 collections;  active promotion of use of the collections,
of donor
 relationships and of  grant support for the activities of
the department;
 implementation of  digital technologies for access and
preservation of the
 collections;  participation in UC systemwide planning,
including programs
 of the  California Digital Library.
 
 QUALIFICATIONS:
 Extensive experience and knowledge of the arrangement and
 description of  special collections materials, standards of
bibliographic
 control and  preservation, archival principles and
practices;
 administrative experience  in a research or academic
library demonstrating   strong  management,  analytical and
planning skills; knowledge of and  experience 
 in use of  automated systems and digital technologies in
special
 collections;  evidence of strong commitment to public
service and ability
 to work  effectively with faculty, staff and students in a
rapidly
 changing and  diverse environment; graduate degree in
Library Science from
 an  ALA-accredited institution or its equivalent.  Second
 graduate subject  degree strongly preferred.

 Librarians are academic appointees.  They earn 24 days of
 vacation and 12  days of sick leave per annum.  The
University has an
 excellent retirement  system which is coordinated with
