John and all,
I recently visited the MTA video library in New York. They have some
800,000 videos in various formats in their collection. They circulate
constantly.

We asked about DVD. They are bypassing it and going straight into
computer-based digital format. This is not my area, so I am not clear
what they all meant by this, but it might be worth exploring.

We will always buy a dvd instead of a vhs when this is possible, but we don't
have a policy in place yet. Faculty and students prefer
dvds because of their better image quality, longevity, and better
"search" capabilities. I still buy a lot of vhs as many faculty
want to preview films at home to prepare for their
courses.
