Engineering Librarian-Branch Head
Kansas State University seeks an individual to serve as the Head of the new
(currently under construction) Fiedler Engineering Library. This position
requires the ability to function in a startup environment and respond
effectively to rapidly changing and developing conditions. The Fiedler
Library is part of the KSU Science Libraries Department and, as such, will
operate in concert with the Wm. R. Love Science Library, the KSU Veterinary
Medical Library, the KSU-Salina Library, and the KSU Math/Physics Library.
This tenure-track position is a full time, twelve month appointment
reporting to the Chair of Science Libraries. The successful candidate will
be expected to meet the requirements for tenure in KSU Libraries.
Responsibilities:
Provide management and policy guidance for the Engineering Library;
Coordinate Fiedler Engineering Library programs and initiatives with those
of the and other parts of the KSU Libraries system. Develop and implement
new or enhanced services; Supervise support staff and student employees. Act
as library subject specialist for selected areas of engineering. Provide
consultative reference services in engineering disciplines. Provide
individual and group training for faculty and students on the use of
information resources (both print and electronic), Select resources in all
formats, and promote awareness of and access to electronic information
resources, with an emphasis on incorporating the latest technologies for
information delivery. Pursue professional development activities that
support library goals and the incumbents progress toward tenure.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree and a minimum of three years
experience in a science, engineering, or technical library environment.
Knowledge of the research and instructional needs of students and faculty in
engineering and of issues and trends in scholarly communication in the
sciences. Ability to contribute in a team environment and to collaborate
with colleagues throughout the campus community. Demonstrated ability to
communicate in a clear, knowledgeable manner. Evidence of professional
activities which indicate an interest in earning tenure. Potential to meet
the Kansas State University Libraries requirements for tenure.
PREFERRED
Evidence of academic work or experience in an engineering environment or
technology-related field. Knowledge of Endeavor Voyager ILS or of another
modern Integrated Library System and it's components. Knowledge of or an
interest in modern information systems.

Salary and Benefits:

Candidates selected for on-campus interviews will be expected to make a
twenty-minute presentation to library and university faculty, staff and
