Steenbock Library, a member of the General Library System, University
of Wisconsin - Madison campus is seeking applications for a full-time
Academic/Senior Academic Librarian. Benefits include 22 vacation days,
sick leave, group health and life insurance and a state retirement
plan. Full-time salary is $38,882 minimum.
Steenbock primarily serves the College of Agricultural and Life
Sciences, the School of Human Ecology, and the School of Veterinary
Medicine. The library's acquisitions budget is approximately $600,000 a
year. This position reports to the Director of the Library.
Requirements: MLS from an ALA-accredited program; minimum of three
years professional experience in an academic or research library in
technical services (acquisitions, cataloging, serials management) and/or
collection development; demonstrated supervisory experience; experience
with managing a collection budget; excellent oral, written and
interpersonal communication skills. The ideal candidate will have
experience in both acquisitions and collection development.
Desired Qualifications: Experience with Voyager system software;
experience with original cataloging; experience with spreadsheet and
database software such as Microsoft Excel and Access; experience or
interest in working with science library materials and patrons;
commitment to working in a team management environment; experience with
the acquisition, maintenance and use of electronic/digital resources;
knowledge of or interest in government publications; knowledge of using
metadata in the creation of records for digital resources.
Responsibilities: The Academic Librarian in this position has
responsibility for overall management and coordination of technical
services and collection development activities at Steenbock Library.
Duties include supervising a staff of 3 FTE paraprofessionals and
student employees (1 FTE) in technical services; providing overall
management and coordination of collection development activities,
including coordination with other campus libraries; acting as resource
person for Steenbock Library staff regarding the acquisition and/or
licensing of electronic resources; monitoring the acquisitions budget,
evaluating and exercising control over pace of spending and to achieve
balance between subject areas, serials/monographs, and electronic/print
resources; other professional duties which may include original
cataloging, reference, selection, and instruction. [Steenbock Library's
