As the current coordinator of the Philosophy Religion Theology
Discussion Group of the Association for College & Research Libraries
(ACRL, a unit of ALA), I am placing this call for speakers, for some
future conferences of ALA.
AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION / ALA
SUMMER 2000:
July 8 -- 11, 2000
Chicago, Illinois
WINTER 2001
January 13 --16, 2001
Washington DC
I am looking for volunteers who can give a presentation before an
audience of librarians that focuses on Philosophy or Religon/Theology.
Although the PRT Discussion Group is under the auspices of the ACRL,
I would be glad to extend a wider net, to public librarians as well as
academic or special librarians, for an up coming PRT presentation.
We try to have one or two guest presenters (45 minutes each), as well
as time for general discussions and requests for problem solving from the
attendees.
I am interested in hearing from folks who would like to make a
presentation at ALA's SUMMER 2000 in Chicago and/or at ALA's WINTER 2000
in DC.
We do not have any budget for honorariums or reimbursing for
expenses, so I am therefore looking for volunteers who are certain that
they can attend these ALA conferences.
OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS & TOPICS
Feel free to send me a topic and briefly outline what you propose to
do at a PRT presentation.
Here are some topics that have been suggested:
- How can a librarian at a STATE COLLEGE/UNIV or a PUBLIC LIBRARY fulfill
requests to incorporate religion related materials into the collection,
without raising eyebrows over public funds for religious purposes.
- Building a core collection of books that provide interdisciplinary
comparisons of different religion, for undergraduates.
- Building a core collection of books & journals on philosophy for
undergraduates.
Or, pick your own topic, and contact me, so that we can discuss it
further.
Thank you very much for your interest.
