Position: East European and Slavic Studies Librarian
Position Available: Immediately
Responsibilities: In consultation with program faculty, responsible for
collection development and selection of materials to support teaching and
scholarship in the areas of
East European and Slavic studies, in both vernacular and western languages;
monitors and selects materials received on approval plans; manages funds for the
purchase of library materials in all formats; responsible for the operation of
the East European and Slavic Studies Reading Room;
supervises the maintenance and preservation of both the Reading Room and the
circulating collections in the Main Library book stacks; works with technical
services
personnel to solve acquisition problems and determine cataloging priorities;
participates in OhioLINK, CIC projects, and other cooperative collections and
services as
appropriate. Other duties include liaison with program faculty, research
consultation during office hours, bibliographic instruction, and participation
in
library and university committees. Also prepares reports and statistics;
supervises and evaluates one full-time staff member and student assistants. Is
a member of the
Department of Language and Area Studies and reports to the Assistant Director
for Collections. This position has faculty status with accompanying University
expectations
and requirements for tenure and promotions which include research, publication,
and service.
Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited program or comparable credential
from a foreign institution, good reading knowledge of Russian; relevant
experience in an
academic or research library; knowledge of bibliographic and research
methodologies in East European and Slavic
studies; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Preference will be given to candidates with working knowledge of other Slavic or
East
European languages and of western European languages (e.g., French and German);
an advanced degree in East European or Slavic studies and; familiarity with the
East
European and Slavic studies book trade; and experience with online systems and
electronic resources; supervisory experience desired.
Salary and Rank: $30,000 minimum; Faculty rank and salary dependent upon
experience and qualifications. This position has faculty status with
accompanying University
expectations and requirements for tenure and promotions which include research,
publication and service.
Benefits: 22 days vacation, 15 days sick leave, and 10 holidays.
