Program Officer for Resource Sharing
Big 12 Plus Libraries Consortium
The Big 12 Plus Libraries Consortium (BTP) invites applications
for the position of Program Officer for Resource Sharing. This is a new
position that plans and coordinates activities related to the BTP's
resource
sharing program area, based on specific goals and strategies developed by
the deans/directors of the BTP libraries in this program in the following
areas:
· Interlibrary loan
· Cooperative collection development
· Licensing electronic resources
· Building shared digital collections
· Cooperative reference and instructional programs related to collection
development projects.
The Big 12 Plus (<http://www.big12plus.org/>http://www.big12plus.org) is a
regional consortium of 26 major research libraries located in 12 states
in the central and western U.S. with
programs in resource sharing, scholarly communication, continuing education
and preservation & conservation. Headquarters for the consortium is the Linda
Hall
Library (<http://www.lindhall.org/>http://www.lindhall.org) in Kansas City,
Missouri. Twenty-one of the BTP member libraries belong to the
Association of Research Libraries (ARL).
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, and working closely with
the member libraries, the program officer will plan and coordinate the
implementation of the goals and strategies for resource sharing that are
established by
the membership. Specific responsibilities include:
· Working with various consortium committees and taskforces involved in
resource sharing activities, including coordination of meetings
· Negotiating license agreements for electronic resources
· Interlibrary loan delivery contract management
· Coordination of a pilot project for Web-based, patron-initiated interlibrary
loan
· Managing communications on BTP resource sharing activities among member
libraries
· Project planning and management
· In collaboration with the Executive Director, representing the Big 12
Plus at professional meetings and conferences
Qualifications:
Required: Masters in Library Science from an ALA-accredited graduate
school of library/information studies and five (5) years of professional
experience
in an academic or research library or in a cooperative library agency or
organization.
Professional experience in collection development, database licensing or
interlibrary
loan. Demonstrated project management skills and effective oral and written
communication skills. Ability to travel to consortium meetings, member
libraries, and
professional conferences.
Preferred: Experience in an library consortium environment, effective
group facilitation skills, grant writing experience and a demonstrated ability
to work
effectively in a collaborative library environment with multiple
constituencies.
Salary & Benefits:
Beginning salary range is $45,000 - $50,000 per year, commensurate with
education and experience. Big 12 Plus professional staff are compensated
through the
University of Kansas, with appointments in the University Libraries as
Unclassified
Professional Staff (non-tenure track). As such, BTP staff are eligible for
University of
Kansas benefits, including:
· 22 paid vacation days and 12 days paid sick leave annually
· Group health and life insurance options, including a choice of four
retirement programs (TIAA-CREF, etc.)
Relocation of the successful candidate to the Kansas City area is highly
preferred but may be negotiable under certain circumstances.
