Hello out there;

I am a senior reference librarian at Lehigh Carbon Community College
Library at Schnecksville, Pennsylvania. We have an automated Innovative
library catalog called WAVE <wave.lccc.edu> and are in the process of
deciding what types of items should be indexed therein.

Would anyone share or suggest examples of selection policies that
evaluate all types of items to be included in automated catalogs:
ezines; full text books; web sites, etc.

Thanks for reading this plea from the wilderness.

We have a policy of including bib records for everything we have *paid* for
on the web (so, ejournals, databases, full text sources such as
netLibrary). In a few cases we have also added bib records for free things
on the web when they are of particular importance to our users - such as
the index to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

We have extensive web pages that also list (in some cases duplicating
titles included in the catalog) ejournals, databases, and other web sites
we have deemed useful for our patrons. The library's webmaster is in the
process of developing a searchable front end for these sites. I have mixed
feelings about duplicating what is in the catalog and also in creating yet
another "catalog" for a separate set of resources but at the present that
seems to be the best way to accomplish goals of both Tech Services and
Reference folks.
