no. 2553, From: "Nancy Goebel" <goebn_at_Corelli.Augustana.AB.CA>

I have just found out that I need to do a collection assessment of
our computing science holdings and resources available to students
by mid-January. A few searches show me that there is not a current
"guide to the literature" type of resource against which to compare
our collection. Can anyone point me to one or to a new/authoritative
bibliography? Any information, including URLs for computing science
collection development policies, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

A number of people e-mailed me asking for the info I gathered for my
computing science collection review. Here are the messages and URLS
I received from my request:

1. http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~stroulia/LIBRARY/library-resources.html

2. Given your time line, this is going to have to be quick and dirty.
The most important things you want to find out are (1) what
percentage of your collection is recent or current and (2) how your
overall holdings in this subject compare with those of your peer
institutions. You can also compare your holdings with listings in
Books in Print, to show what percentage of in-print titles you have;
no published subject bibliography is at all likely to be current
enough. Using both classification numbers and selected subject
headings will give the best results; depending on what your online
catalog--and those of your peers--can do, this can be relatively easy
or really difficult.
