Position Description

Title: Business and Real Estate Librarian

Description:   Subject specialist for real estate and business,
assigned to the Business/Social Science/Documents Reference Center,
Bobst Library.  Librarians serve as partners in the educational
mission of NYU by establishing strong relationships with the faculty
and students, building and maintaining appropriate research
collections, and providing responsive and innovative reference and
information services. Responsibilities include reference, instruction,
collection development, website and database management and work with
numeric and spatial data services.  Administrative responsibility for 
the Jack Brause Real Estate Institute Library including supervision of
 2 clerical staff and student assistants and liaison with the
Institute faculty, students and the real estate community.  Librarians
also participate in library planning, serve on library-wide committees
and are expected to be active professionally.

Qualifications:   Minimum 3 yrs experience in reference services in an
academic or special library.  Knowledge of business sources or
academic background in business essential.  Excellent analytical,
organizational, oral and written communication skills; strong service
orientation.    Desirable: Library experience with business or real
estate emphasis;  previous management or supervisory experience;
advanced degree/graduate work in business, real estate or related
area; experience with SPSS, SASS, GIS software, geospatial map files
and digital mapping products.  Requires ALA accredited MLS.  Subject
master's degree required for tenure. 

The New York University Libraries:   Library facilities at NYU serve
the schools' 50,000 students and faculty and contain more than 4
million volumes.  The Elmer Holmes Bobst Library houses 3 million
volumes and serves as the University's principle research resource. 
New York University is a member of the Research Libraries Group and
serves as the headquarters for the Research Library Association of
South Manhattan, a consortium of three academic institutions, and is
affiliated with The New-York Historical Society.

The recently expanded Jack Brause Real Estate Institute Library
provides reference, instructional and information services to students
and faculty affiliated with the NYU School of Professional and
Continuing Studies Real Estate Institute, the real estate industry and
the public.  The library is located at the University's Midtown
Center.  Begun in 1983, the Library contains real estate materials on
finance, investment, development, management and economics and
includes industry statistics, property ownership, zoning regulations,
mortgage banking, retail leasing trends, and hotel management
information.  The Library maintains its own website and a unique
database on real estate literature, the Brause Index, which is
available on the web. 

Salary/Benefits:  Faculty status, excellent benefits include five
weeks annual vacation.  Salary commensurate with experience and
background.  Minimum:  $36,000.
