no.2109- From: "James Jenkins" <jenkijh_at_groupwise1.duc.auburn.edu>
Our library is in the process of developing a Collection
Development Policy for electronic resources (databases, internet, cd-rom
etc.). Does anyone have or know of an example of a policy of this
type that we could look at to get some ideas/liberally borrow from?

Although we do not (yet) have a nicely written Collection Development Policy
that I can post, we have discussed this issue and have taken the approach
described by Tom Izbicki [see no.2122, "I do not believe in separate CD policies
for electronic products...." ]. We think that it is important to view electronic
resources by purpose rather than by format, asking questions such as: Is this CD
(or online resource) essentially a monograph? An index? Full-text journals?
Procedures are added (e.g. we have to be sure that we have compute rs capable of
reading the CD) which speak to the specific format.
