The Communication Bibliographer and Reference Librarian is responsible for
developing library resources and new approaches to library service to
support the professional and research programs of the College of
Communication.  Collection development responsibilities include liaison
with faculty and students, collection evaluation and management of material
funds.  Reference service responsibilities include providing reference desk
and consulting services, conceptualizing and implementing technology-based
public service programs, marketing distance reference services, promoting
awareness of new information resources, and initiating collaborative
interdisciplinary projects with other bibliographers in support of the
College of Communication joint degree programs.  Instruction
responsibilities focus on course-integrated library instruction,
particularly creating and maintaining electronic web pages, subject guides
and instructional materials using web and presentation software.  The
position reports to the Head Librarian, Main Library Services Division.

The Reference and Information Services Department, located in the
Perry-Castaneda Library, the main library of the University of Texas at
Austin General Libraries (http://www.lib.utexas.edu), emphasizes the social
sciences, humanities, business and education.  The College of Communication
(http://www.utexas.edu/coc/), the largest and most comprehensive program of
its kind, serves approximately 3,700 undergraduate and 500 graduate
students each semester and includes the departments of Advertising,
Communication Sciences and Disorders, Journalism, Radio-Television-Film,
Speech Communication and the Program in Public Relations.

Required Qualifications:  MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program.
Reference or collection development library experience in a communication
discipline.  Experience working with microcomputers in a networked
environment.  Knowledge of and experience with web technology and
authoring.

Preferred Qualifications:  Academic degree in a related field or
professional experience providing reference assistance and collection
development for communication subject areas.  Familiarity with trends and
issues in academic information services.  Experience with library
instruction and development of instructional materials.  Demonstrated
knowledge of developing technologies supporting reference and distance
learning services.  Demonstrated public speaking, teaching, writing,
communication and analytical problem-solving skills.  Demonstrated ability
to work collegially and collaboratively in a dynamic and changing
environment.  Ability to think creatively in a professional work
environment.  A solid understanding of the communication industry and
products of the broadcast, film and print worlds.  Demonstrated potential
for leadership in university, state, national and international programs
and initiatives.

Salary is $35,000 to $40,000 annually or more, depending on qualifications
and experience.  No state or local income tax.  Standard state benefits
