Hello Colldv-l list members.
I will be editing a special issue of Against the Grain--vol. 12, no.
3, June 2000--on approval plans. I hereby invite librarians and
vendors to submit article proposals. Our geographic focus in this
call is North America and the UK (we have already made a call for
foreign plans on other lists). Our subject focus is cutting edge,
unique, daring, or otherwise simply interesting approval plans. If
you do something unusual (or against the grain), let's hear about it!
Suggested topics for librarians include (but are not limited to):
interesting aspects of your profile, returns, processing, etc.;
cooperative plans with other libraries; evaluation or comparison of
vendors; analysis of cost or labor for your plans; users' or staff's
opinions of the plan; and position papers on outsourcing. Vendors are
welcome to submit proposals on description of services, history of
approval plans at your company, relations with libraries, and other
topics.
Articles typically average 10 typed pages in length, although shorter
and longer articles also are considered.
Deadline for proposals is Monday, November 8, 1999. If your proposal
is accepted, the following firm deadlines will apply:
*Paper submitted to Guest Editor by Monday, March 20, 2000.
*Revised paper (if necessary) resubmitted to Guest Editor by Friday,
April 7, 2000.
Against the Grain usually is not refereed; however, on occasion and
depending on the subject matter, submissions are double-blind
reviewed, at the discretion of the Editor, Katina Strauch, College of
Charleston.
