Collection Development Coordinator

Rice University, a private university located in Houston, Texas, is
seeking a highly motivated librarian committed to building academic
library collections and services tailored to the present and future needs
of our academic community. Candidates with a strong combination of
bibliographic, technical and interpersonal skills are encouraged to apply.
The position reports to the AUL for Collections.

Rice University is an exciting place to work, with opportunities to
participate in the development of innovative library technologies and
services. Fondren Library participates in many regional, national, and
international collaborative library projects. The range of library
collections is widening to reflect the frequent addition of new university
initiatives. An active program of digital resource development is grounded
in successful collaboration with University information technology staff
and a broadening range of well-supported  interdepartmental projects.
Preparation for a major building renovation/expansion is underway.

Responsibilities include: assertively conduct outreach to a wide range of
faculty, students and staff; monitor the effective performance of the
library's book approval services, making changes as needed; assist the AUL
for Collections with budget management tasks; take primary responsibility
for building and managing collections in support of one or more academic
disciplines; support efforts to digitize primary resources and use of
these products in curricular settings; provide reference services to
members of the Rice University community and the general public.

Participate in professional activities on campus and at local/national
levels. 

Qualifications
Requirements: ALA-accredited MLS; minimum of 2 years demonstrated
experience in collection development in an academic setting; demonstrated
experience and facility with digital projects (e.g. development of web
pages, electronic resources, digitization of library resources);
excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills; ability to
work independently; demonstrated ability to work well with others in a
close, sustained collaboration. 

Preferred: reading ability in one or more major European languages,
academic background in science or engineering preferred.

Salary/benefits: $40,000 minimum, with hiring salary commensurate with
experience and qualifications; no state or local income tax; career
advancement program; 21 benefit days; 8 study days; TIAA/CREF; health and
life insurance; and tuition waiver.
