Our library has a large collection of software that circulates and we are
trying to write a collection development policy for it. Are there
policies that we could use as a model? Thanks for your help.

A large part of the problem is whether the software came with books. We
try to fit the circulation of software included with books to the status
of the books. Thus there is a longer term for software with books in the
regular collection than for the books in our Computer Support Collection,
which is intended to keep manuals for hot computer applications more
readily available. In either case, the book is in the science collection
but the software is in Audio-Visual.
