Hi again, everyone --
Just to clarify my previous posting: CD HotList is a review source for audio
CDs, not CD-ROMs. Sorry about the ambiguity!

Hello, everyone --
This note is to announce a new web-based review source for sound
recordings; it is non-commercial and is provided free of charge to the
library community.
CD HotList is a monthly listing of new releases that are recommended for
library collections. The format is designed to facilitate ordering -- each
entry includes full discographical and pricing information, as well as a
capsule review. Those so inclined can simply print up the page, circle the
items desired and pass the list along to their ordering staff. CD HotList is
unlike most review sources in that it is a *recommendation* service -- all
entries are high-quality recordings that strike me as being of particular
interest to libraries. The number of entries each month is generally between
12 and 15, in order to keep the service useful and not overwhelming. Genres
covered include classical, jazz, rock/pop, folk and world music (in about that
order).
I started CD HotList earlier this year, and it is currently in its third
month.
I instituted the service because it occurred to me that, as a freelance music
critic, I have access to lots of information about new releases, and it seemed
silly to me to keep that information to myself when it might be of use to
my colleagues in the profession. If sharing that information in a
formalized way helps me get tenure, well, so much the better.
Every month I will send a note to the COLLDV-L list, notifying you that the CD
HotList page has been updated for the month and providing the URL. I'll
identify this posting clearly in the subject line so that those who aren't
interested can delete the note without having to open it.
Here's the URL, for those who would like to check it out:

I'm always interested in suggestions or feedback. Thanks for your attention.
