SALARY: Associate Librarian - $39,456 to $56,844
or Librarian - $53,052 to $73,560. Appointment rank and salary based on
qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports to an Associate University Librarian and has primary
planning and administrative responsibility for the Humanities/Social
Sciences Department. This department is one of five subject departments
in the General Library. The Department is responsible for collection
development and management for undergraduate and research level
collections and for reference service and specialized instruction in the
humanities, social sciences, and fine arts. The Head coordinates
expenditures of collections budgets of approximately $1.6 million and
promotes faculty liaison and systemwide resource sharing activities. Works
with Humanities/Social Sciences librarians in planning, developing and
implementing ongoing activities and special projects; in consultation with
librarians, establishes goals and objectives and evaluates their work.
Provides leadership for 8 librarians and 1.5 FTE support staff. Shares
reference service and collection development. Participates in planning
and management through the Library's consultative committee structure.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution or its
equivalent. Demonstrated understanding of the nature of scholarly research
and use of collections, preferably through graduate level study in a
relevant field. Substantial experience and demonstrated achievement in
reference service and collection development activity in a major academic
or research library required; successful relevant supervisory experience
required. Demonstrated understanding of the impact of current trends in
electronic information technology; experience with library technologies in
reference service and collection development. Ability to work effectively
and congenially with colleagues and library users in a complex and
changing environment. Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and
motivate professional associates within a collegial framework.
Demonstrated excellence in organizational leadership and oral and written
communication.

Librarians are academic appointees. They earn 24 days of vacation and 12
