Librarian - Special Collections: Growing, urban academic library is in
development phase, which marks Special Collections as an area for
enhancement.  Creative, energetic, flexible individual with strong
public services commitment sought to manage Special Collections,
including a major sound archive and growing collection of rare,
uncommon, and archival material.  Provides reference, collection
development, instruction, and other Special Collections services.
Supervises Sound Recording Specialist, Library Assistant I, Clerk III,
student assistants, volunteers. Provides faculty liaison, collection
development, library instruction for History Department and as assigned.
Some evenings, weekends required.  Reports to Assistant Director for
Collection Development, and participates on team developing public
service plans, policies, procedures that support the Libraries’ service
mission.  Professional development encouraged, required for promotion.
Extensive library automation.  Rank dependent upon qualifications.

Minimum requirements: ALA accredited MLS; exceptional interpersonal,
communication skills; successful supervisory experience; current,
relevant special collections and information technology experience;
ability to work positively, productively with diverse constituencies in
growth environment; understanding of scholarly research environment;
evidence of professional initiative, mature judgement; potential to meet
promotion requirements in non-tenure track appointment.

Preferred: Graduate degree in history; successful, current academic
library, reference, instruction, collection development, government
documents, archives management, preservation, exhibition planning,
digitization project, and donor relations experience; familiarity with
Western European language.
