The NCSU Libraries is recruiting for the following positions:

LIFE SCIENCES REFERENCE LIBRARIAN (Revised-Professional Experience
Required)

The North Carolina State University Libraries invites applications and
nominations for the position of Life Sciences Reference Librarian in the
Research and Information Services Department. By delivering
user-centered services, including 24 hour reference service, an
extensive and flexible program of user education, and support for a rich
and growing array of electronic resources, the department helps the
university community discover, understand, and use information.

Responsibilities
Delivers information and research services to faculty, staff, and
students of the university. Provides general information and research
service at the reference desk, via e-mail and in consultation with
individual library users, (including during evening and weekend hours).
Works closely with faculty, students and staff in the College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences as a departmental liaison to determine and
meet service needs and program requirements.  Designs and conducts
classes and seminars in research methods. Develops instructional
materials and guides in print and electronic formats. Plans responsive
and innovative client-based information services.

Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Minimum 3 years’ relevant professional
experience.  Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies
as they contribute to meeting the needs of researchers in an academic
community. Ability to plan, design and implement new services, projects,
and  procedures.  Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate
clearly and knowledgeably, both orally and in writing. Ability to work
independently, and in a team environment. Sets priorities effectively
and can resolve competing demands in an environment of fast-paced
change.  Preferred: Experience delivering information and research
services to the scientific community.  Prefer bachelor’s degree in a
life sciences discipline.

COLLECTION MANAGEMENT LIBRARIAN, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
The Collection Management Department is responsible for developing the
Libraries’ collections, allocating the collections budget, formulating
collection development policies, assessing users’ needs, and performing
faculty liaison activities.  The department, composed of seven
librarians and three support staff members, is strongly committed to
building collections that are responsive to user needs and rich in
electronic, multimedia, and traditional print resources.

Responsibilities
Provides leadership for humanities and social sciences collection
development and management.  Performs as primary selector of humanities
and social sciences materials in all formats, and manages the planning,
policy development, funding, evaluation, and use of library collections
in these subject areas.  Develops and maintains client-focused
relationships with faculty and students to determine collection needs
and priorities.  Serves as chair of the Humanities and Social Sciences
Subject Team.  Supervises the work of a collection development intern.
Directs the Libraries’ gifts program, working closely with donors and
Special Collections.

Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS.  Academic background in humanities or
social sciences.  Minimum three years’ experience with humanities and
social sciences literature and resources.  Familiarity with major
collection development issues.  Ability to work effectively with faculty
and students.  Knowledge of applications of current and emerging
technologies as they meet the needs of library clients.  Understanding
of scholarly communication and issues of ownership and access.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly,
knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing. Preferred:
Advanced degree in humanities or social sciences discipline. Minimum
three years’ experience with humanities/social sciences collection
development.

COLLECTION MANAGEMENT LIBRARIAN, LIFE SCIENCES(Entry-Level)
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the head of Collection Management, provides
leadership for life sciences collection development and management.
Performs as primary selector of materials in botany, biology, genetics,
medicine, and zoology, in all formats. Manages the planning, policy
development, funding, evaluation, and use of library collections in
these subject areas. Develops and maintains client-focused relationships
with faculty and students in the College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences to determine collection needs and priorities. Serves as a
member of the Agriculture and Life Sciences Subject Team.

Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Academic background in a life sciences
discipline or significant experience with life sciences literature and
resources.  Ability to work effectively with faculty and students.
Knowledge of applications of current and emerging technologies as they
meet the needs of library clients. Understanding of scholarly
communication and issues of ownership and access. Excellent
interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and
personably, orally and in writing.  Preferred: Advanced degree in a life
sciences discipline.
