POSITION VACANCY
Collection Development Position. Western Carolina
University. Available October 1, 1999.
This position is responsible for providing
leadership in the development and evaluation of the monograph, video,
and sound recordings collections as well as Web sites for inclusion in
our OPAC. Responsible for policy formulation, allocation and
management of assigned budget, gifts, coordinating and supporting the
work of librarians who serve as liaisons to departments, working
with faculty who are planning new programs or courses, preparing for
specialized accreditation visits and participating in cooperative
collection development activities in a three institution consortium.
The person in this position is expected to work closely with the Serials
Librarian who has comparable responsibilities with respect to serials
resources. Some bibliographic instruction and reference desk duties.
Supervises one full time support staff and student assistants. Reports to
University Librarian.
Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in library science
and a minimum of two years experience in collection development.
Preferred: Experience in collection assessment, liaison
with classroom faculty, analysis of user needs, supervisory skills,
knowledge of automated systems. Good oral and written communication
skills, planning and organizational skills, and an ability to work
effectively with teaching faculty, students, library faculty and staff.
This is a twelve-month, faculty appointment. The successful
candidate will be expected to develop a record of excellence in
librarianship, scholarship and service in order to meet university
standards for tenure. Salary $35, 550. Position open until filled.
