Collection Development Librarian

Albert R. Mann Library, part of the Cornell University Library system, is
accepting applications for the position of Collection Development Librarian.

Responsibilities: Participate fully as a member of the Collection Development
team, including materials selection, faculty liaison work, policy formulation,
collection evaluation, and gifts and exchange activities.  Provide leadership
in the selection of electronic resources for Mann Library, particularly
e-journals and full-text web-based resources.   Develop expertise in licensing
of full-text resources and maintain an awareness of new products and
systems in electronic full-text. Assist in the reference and instruction
programs.

Qualifications:  MLS or equivalent degree from an accredited program required.
Subject background or interest in agriculture, life sciences or social
sciences.  Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and
commitment to service and professional development.  Experience in the use of
information technologies and enthusiasm for an innovative environment is
important.  The individual will be expected to develop expertise in existing
and emerging technologies for information delivery, as well as to lead and/or
participate in other innovative research projects.

Environment: The Albert R. Mann Library provides innovative information
services
for the 21st century and has achieved national renown for its working
electronic library.  Mann's collection of agricultural, life sciences and
related social sciences materials serves the College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences, the College of Human Ecology, and the Divisions of Biological and
Nutritional Sciences at Cornell. Mann holds almost one million items in its
collection of print, microform, and digital materials and operates an extensive
digital library at http://www.mannlib.cornell.edu.  Mann Library is considered
to be the premier agricultural and life science library within an academic
institution in the United States and has won several national awards.  Our
principal user population numbers almost 10,000 and includes undergraduates,
graduate students, faculty, researchers, and staff.  Mann Library is the second
largest of 19 libraries that together constitute the Cornell University
Library.
