ALCTS TO OFFER TWO PRECONFERENCES IN NEW ORLEANS, LA

Library Acquisitions and eMonographs/eBooks will be the topics of two
preconferences to be offered by ALCTS. The workshops will be held on
Thursday, June 24 and Friday, June 25, prior to the ALA Annual
Conference in New Orleans, LA. The deadline for registration is May
21.
"Advancing Acquisitions: Services, Standards and Skills" is presented
by the Acquisitions Section, Education Committee. This advanced
preconference will discuss key aspects of the ever-changing library
acquisitions environment and help those involved in the business of
acquisitions update skills and gain new knowledge. Through speaker
presentations, hands-on sessions and small discussion groups,
attendees will find a number of ways to learn and participate. The
preconference is designed for experienced acquisitions and serials
librarians, administrators, and vendors. Registration fees for are
$175 for ALCTS members; $225 for ALA members; $275 for non-ALA
members. (ALCTS #1)
"Bringing Monographs into the Digital Library" is presented by the
ALCTS Program Committee. This preconference will explore issues
related to the incorporation of eMonographs/eBooks into the digital
library. Presenters will define the eBook; identify its the
significance in the digital library; address eBook selection,
acquisition, organization, distribution, copyright, preservation, and
perpetual access-from the
librarian's perspective; and address key issues of importance to
librarians and publishers in relation to eBook licensing and pricing.
Registration fees are $115 for ALCTS members; $165 for ALA members;
$215 for non-ALA members. (ALCTS #2)
