Our library is looking for automated collection analysis service vendors. We
are a small (3,000 students) public liberal arts university. If you have had
experience--good (or not so good), with a particular vendor, we would like
to hear from you. If you would like to respond off-list, that will be fine.
If there is enough interest, I will summarize for the list. Thanks for any
suggestions you can provide.

Thanks to all who inquired about automated collection analysis service
vendors. Unfortunately, no one on this list seems to know of one. A quick
summary of what I learned follows.
I called AMIGIOS/OCLC about their CD-ROM product --it is no longer
available, apparently, because it was DOS based. They are working on a WEB
version; but do not know when it will be available.
Choice tapes are no longer available. However, Choice is currently available
online. The subscription includes monthly updates (same as the magazine or
Choice on cards) with the backfile beginning September 1, 1988. (For
subscription information, call the Choice office 860-347-6933.)
In an e-mail from the American Library Association a few days ago, they said
that Books for College Libraries, 4th edition is projected for publication
in 2003. Further that "all appropriate electronic spin-offs will be made
available at that time and the people at Choice will be the editors."
Evan Farber's article "Books not for College Libraries," (Library Journal,
August 1997) may be an option for deselection. For tape access see COLLDV-L
no. 1983 for details of the "Center for Research Libraries (CRL) & Library
Dynamics Company (LDC) Plan National Back-up Collection of Weeded Books."
