We're looking at starting a circulating cd-rom collections with some
general interest cd-roms in the $50 price range. I've been checking library
supply catalogs for cd security strips and storage boxes.
We'd like to hear from libraries that have done this already. Some of
the concerns that staff have include:
1)technical support issues--we really just want to circulate them
like videos and not be helping students load them on their own
pcs.
2)Do we integrate them into the collection or carve out separate
real estate? We're talking about puting the packages on the shelf
like we do with our video boxes and keeping the actual cds in
jewel cases behind circulation.
3)Does anyone have a collection development policy that includes
a circulating cd-rom collection?
We'd appreciate any information from libraries who have been doing this
for a while. I'd be happy to collect the information we receive and
forward to anyone else on the list who's interested.
Thanks in advance.
