Between Chaos and Clockwork:
Organizing Academic Libraries for Collection Development
To produce and maintain good collections many pieces have to be in place
to make it whole. This is true with the way libraries are organized to
carry out collection development. Numerous elements in collection
management combine
to make libraries flourish, including the use of new acquisitions methods, and
recognizing changing patterns of faculty/librarian interaction, the impact
of external forces (such as consortia), continuous technological advances,
and heightened expectations from legislatures and patrons.
This session will deal with present realities and future trends in effectively
organizing academic libraries for collection development.
