The Iowa State University Library seeks two Librarian positions:  (1) Life
Sciences Librarian and (2) Physical Sciences Librarian both at the rank of
Assistant Professor. DESCRIPTION:  Serves as a subject specialist in the
Science and Technology Department, performing reference, instruction and
collection development activities in the sciences, as part of a team of 6-8
faculty members.  Works in an innovative environment emphasizing electronic
reference and instructional services, including a web gateway to indexing,
abstracting, and full-text databases; mediated and end-user online
searching; and a course-related instructional program with a growing
emphasis on electronic delivery. There will be some flexibility in
responsibilities based on qualifications of successful candidates and
current faculty areas of expertise.  Engages in scholarship appropriate to
faculty appointment.

LIFE SCIENCES LIBRARIAN:  QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA-accredited MLS.
Ability to meet promotion and tenure standards.  Degree or significant
course work in sciences OR one or more years of experience in science
reference/collection development.  Commitment to public service; ability to
work effectively with all levels of university clientele; flexibility in
adapting to change; commitment to a consultative/participatory style of
management; and effective communication skills.  Preferred:  Education or
experience in biochemistry or genetics. Advanced science degree; knowledge
of database searching (particularly STN and DIALOG); ability to build and
manage research library collections; experience developing and delivering
discipline related instructional sessions.

PHYSICAL SCIENCES LIBRARIAN:   In addition to the above job duties, will
provide collection development/management and consultation services at the
Physical Sciences Reading Room. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited
MLS.  Ability to meet promotion and tenure standards.  Degree or
significant course work in the physical sciences OR at least two years of
experience in physical sciences reference/collection development.
Commitment to public service; ability to work effectively with all levels
of university clientele; flexibility in adapting to change; commitment to a
consultative/participatory style of management; and effective communication
skills. Preferred:  Education or experience in chemistry or physics; an
advanced science degree; knowledge of database searching (particularly STN,
Beilstein, and DIALOG); ability to build and manage research library
collections; experience developing and delivering discipline-related
instructional sessions.

SALARY:  $30,000-35,000, depending upon qualifications.  BENEFITS:
