Collection Development is recruiting for Social Sciences Coordinator.
GENERAL SUMMARY: This is a full-time continuing appointment-track (Academic
Professional) position requiring professional development and service. The
position serves as a member of the Collection Development Team that reports
directly to the Dean of the Libraries. Uses excellent interpersonal skills
working in a collaborative, team environment. Shows flexibility in carrying
out assignments in response to changing circumstances. Essential Functions:
The person in this position is responsible for overseeing and developing
the Social Sciences collections in the Libraries, and advancing the
strategic plan in the area of Social Sciences collection development.
(Social Sciences at Arizona State University include: African American
Studies, Anthropology, Business, Chicano Studies, Communications,
Economics, Education, Ethnic Studies, Family Studies, History, Journalism,
Justice Studies, Latin American Studies, Political Science, Psychology,
Public Affairs, Recreation Management & Tourism, Social Work, Sociology,
Southeast Asian Studies, Sports, and Women's Studies.) Contributes to team
governance and operations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: American Library Association accredited Master of
Library/Information Science degree. A minimum of five year's post-MLS
experience in a professional librarian position in an academic research
library. Broad social sciences background. Knowledge of the domestic and
foreign publishing industry, including blanket and approval plans, and
electronic resources. Knowledge of national and international issues and
trends in collection development. Demonstrated analytical and
organizational skills. Rank dependent upon quality and level of
professional preparation and experience. Knowledge of and demonstrated
experience with library computer applications, such as on-line catalogs,
spreadsheet programs, and word-processing. Preferred: Graduate degree in
relevant social sciences discipline. Experience in analysis of library
collections and needs. Working knowledge of one or more modern foreign
languages. Experience and/or training in the use of electronic
bibliographic and full text sources, and other library technologies.
MINIMUM SALARY: $35,000.
