Head of Bartle Reference and Collections
Binghamton University seeks to fill the position of Head of Bartle
Reference and Collections. This is a tenure track position reporting to
the Director of Libraries.
DESCRIPTION: This person will plan, manage, and evaluate reference,
instruction, and collection development services responsive to the
academic programs of the University; supervise and evaluate a staff of
18 (11 faculty, 7 professional, 1 clerical) making recommendations on
appointments, promotion and tenure; serve as the mentor for junior
faculty; develop and maintain effective communication channels
throughout the Libraries; play a visible role in the academic community
and in state and national professional organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited MLS degree, proven leadership
record with substantial post-MLS experience in an academic library,
several years experience supervising faculty and staff, 5+ years
experience in reference and instruction, collection development
experience, extensive knowledge of new technologies and their
applications in enhancing information services, established record of
professional involvement and service, ability to manage in a dynamic
campus and library environment, proven ability to plan effectively, a
successful record of promoting collaborative development of services,
outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred: An advanced degree in a discipline.
Finalists invited for an interview must demonstrate communication skills
and knowledge of reference and collection services through a
presentation to library faculty, staff, and other members of the
university community.
COMPENSATION: Minimum starting salary $50,000, plus excellent fringe
benefits including TIAA/CREF. Appointment expected at the Associate
Librarian rank.
ENVIRONMENT: One of four university centers within the State University
of New York, Binghamton enrolls approximately 12,000 students in
programs leading to bachelors, master's, and doctoral degrees. The
collections in the Glenn G. Bartle Library and the Science Library
